Transforming Infrastructure

Electrical Kiosk Project

Project Overview

MAB recognises the important role public art plays in shaping identity, enriching place and enhancing the everyday experience of the community. One such initiative is the Merrifield Electrical Kiosk Project, which transforms everyday infrastructure into engaging public artworks for residents to enjoy.

Electrical kiosks are essential service assets located throughout the Merrifield project, often in prominent positions such as parks, community spaces and along key streets. While functional in nature, their visibility presents an opportunity to contribute positively to the public realm.

Through this initiative, MAB has partnered with local artists to develop original designs inspired by themes of sustainability and the natural environment. Community engagement was central to the process, with artists collaborating with local organisations to gather ideas and insights that helped inform the final artworks. The designs were reproduced as high-quality vinyl wraps and applied to each kiosk, turning previously overlooked infrastructure into vibrant, eye-catching features.

The project has enhanced the visual character of key public spaces in Merrifield, supported local creatives and fostered a stronger sense of community through participation in the design process. By reimagining everyday infrastructure, the kiosk artworks not only elevate the streetscape but also help deter graffiti and encourage residents to see familiar places in a new and positive way.
